Snow ByLaws in Ottawa

Snow and ice summary

Owners/occupants are responsible for the removal of snow and ice from all sidewalks on their property and on roofs of buildings that may cause a safety hazard.

Property Maintenance By-law No. 2005 - 208

Every owner or occupant of a building shall keep the roofs of the building and the surrounding lands free of accumulations of snow or ice that might create an accident hazard.

For the purposes of paragraph (b) of subsection (1), the requirement to keep patios free from snow does not apply unless the patio provides the only access to a residential property.

Use and Care of Roads By-law No. 2003 - 498

No person shall ... deposit snow or ice on a highway;


Parking Prohibited (with or without signs): Between the hours of 1 a.m. and 7 a.m. between November 15 and April 1, when the City forecasts accumulated snowfall of seven centimetres or more.
