After Open Text acquired Hummingbird, our team focused on building our
reputation within the new organization. I gained a great deal of exposure during
this time by contributing small designs to many projects.
In 2008, our
team went through a growth stage: doubling in size in over six months. I
contributed to the hiring activities as well as performing the following duties:
- Working closely with
Product Management and Microsoft to research the
requirements for a joint SharePoint solution:
Easy Recruit
- Provided high-level
visions to Product Management as well as
day-to-day design support for the development
and QA teams of Enterprise Connect, Open Text’s
leading desktop interface
- Provided complete
system design and “pixel perfect” mockups for
Enterprise Views, Open Text’s virtual hierarchy
engine
- Served as the Product
Design expert on the Iterative Development
Process (IDP), Open Text’s agile methodology,
and coordinated the creation of a set of best
practices and templates

I joined Hummingbird’s Product Design team the week
after I finished my fourth year exams. My initial projects were small, but after
a few months my responsibilities expanded to include the design of two
Hummingbird applications.
Within the year I had led the designs of two products,
performed usability reviews, created guidelines and contributed to the list of
usability tests conducted at Hummingbird’s user event, Summit. |
